How beautiful it is to witness the birth of a puppy; some have had the privilege, and usually, it's not just one but 2, 3, 4, and even more adorable little ones. However, the family of this lovely furry friend in Kent, United Kingdom, was fortunate enough to see a slightly more numerous litter come into the world – so numerous that it has managed to set a record.
This is about Beau, a black Labrador descended from a Crufts champion. It turns out that Beau was pregnant, and, according to the vet, she was expecting at least 5 or 6 puppies.
Last month, Beau was already ready to give birth, and at this point, her human companion, dog breeder Leah Barrett, remarked that Beau seemed to have not 5 or 6 but 8 puppies.
No one expected her to have so many puppies.
Imagine Leah's surprise when she received 13 beautiful puppies during the delivery! Just 2 puppies shy of the number a black Labrador in Scotland had in 2014. Until now, it was believed that the latter held the record.
The veterinarian told us it would take approximately an hour for each puppy to be born. We thought there might be up to eight, so we estimated about an eight-hour job, but after seven were born in just 40 minutes, we were absolutely astonished. They were just flying," commented Barrett.
The delivery became complicated for one of the puppies as it had become stuck in the birth canal, and when they managed to get it out, the puppy wasn't breathing.
In total, there are 6 females and 7 males, and they all have names based on their personalities.
The moment of birth was unforgettable.
"Stormy" was the runt of the litter, so we gave him a strong name to give him a boost. "Penelope" used to snort a lot, so we named her after the movie character. Another puppy used to howl as if trying to sing, so we named her "Paloma Faith,"" proudly commented Faith, who assists with everything Beau needs.
Right now, Faith has to get up very early to feed the newborns because Beau doesn't have enough teats, just 10 for the 13 little ones.
It's worth celebrating and sharing this incredible miracle of life through the record-breaking delivery. Don't leave without doing so.
