Touching moment: Pitbull comforts siblings before surgery

Two affectionate Pit Bulls, thrust unexpectedly into the search for a new home, relied on their deep connection to navigate the challenges that lay ahead. Little did they know, their profound love for each other would become both their source of strength and their most formidable hurdle.

Tonka and Little P accompanied their owner, Kristofer Busching, on a journey to Colorado when the impact of the coronavirus hit New York. Venturing into the mountains for a hike, they established a camp. Unfortunately, tragedy struck as they ascended higher—Kristofer lost his footing, resulting in a fall that claimed his life, unintentionally involving the two dogs who were also injured in the incident.

Their unwavering loyalty persisted, and the two dogs adamantly refused to part from their dad's side. The rescue operation proved challenging, with rescuers having to forcibly separate the dogs before transporting them to an animal shelter. Tonka suffered a severely broken leg, while Little P sustained mostly superficial injuries.

The dogs, visibly frightened, remained inseparable, seemingly oblivious to the unfolding events. Despite the confusion, they sought solace in each other's presence. After stabilizing Tonka's injured leg, the vet carefully loaded the Pit Bulls into a car and drove them back home to Long Island.

The most challenging phase followed. Tonka's severe injury required a dedicated 12 weeks of stable care, but Little P, being an energetic and playful companion, posed a risk to the healing process. Recognizing the need for caution, the vet insisted on separating them to ensure Tonka could undergo proper healing without jeopardizing his recovery.

Dad's cousin is currently fostering Little P, providing a supportive environment while Tonka undergoes healing in a specialized medical foster home. Little P is adjusting positively, but the primary concern lies with Tonka, who, at ten years old, has been with his dad since puppyhood. The question of whether Tonka will fully recover from the trauma looms large.

While the current separation is understood as a temporary measure, everyone involved is anxious for the day when these two loyal companions can be reunited. The loss of their dad has already been a significant blow, and the urgency to bring them back together is palpable. The hope is that, with time, care, and attention, Tonka will overcome the challenges posed by the traumatic experience and eventually find solace in the companionship of his canine counterpart, Little P.

Mr. Bones and Co. are actively seeking a permanent and loving home for the two Pit Bulls, aiming to keep them together. It's essential that they be the sole dogs in their new home. If you or someone you know is interested in providing a caring forever home for this inseparable pair.
