As reported by ilovemydogsomuch, a pregnant mother dog was deserted at the Boone Area Humane Society after enduring 24 hours of labor.
She went through an emergency C-section and experienced two instances of coding after the procedure. Fortunately, she was eventually stabilized, received a blood transfusion, and underwent thorough observation in the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine's ICU.
On Facebook, the Boone Area Humane Society mentioned, "The doctors at ISU also informed us that this lady is a senior dog and has had multiple litters of puppies in the past."
"She should have been enjoying her golden years, but instead, she was bred and then abandoned when her labor became challenging."
The mother dog delivered 21 puppies, but unfortunately, despite the veterinarians' utmost efforts, all of them have already passed away.
The puppies were all underdeveloped, and it was impossible for them to receive sufficient nourishment while in the womb with 21 puppies.
Ruthie, the mother dog, shows daily improvement, eating independently and venturing outdoors on her own. She possesses a delightful disposition and has been released from the hospital to join her new foster family, where her rehabilitation will persist.
Simultaneously, the Humane Society is making every effort to press charges against the person who abandoned Ruthie to endure suffering. However, they express that it's a challenging endeavor due to Iowa's lenient animal protection regulations.
