Elaine Nelson-Hosak, a foster mother with the BC SPCA, felt a strong compulsion to welcome Celeste and her pups into her home. Celeste entered her life during a time of personal loss, and the timing seemed almost serendipitous. They needed each other, for who could better soothe the anguish of a broken heart than a loyal canine companion who could love and care for Celeste and her puppies?
Subsequently, Celeste underwent a gradual recovery, steadily regaining weight and strength through a carefully planned "refeeding" program. Her body eagerly responded to the six small, nutrient-rich meals she received each day, resulting in a remarkable 90-pound weight gain. The heartwarming update is that four out of her five puppies have already found caring homes and been joyfully reunited with their families.
Based on her response to care and her strong bond with her foster mother, it was clear that Celeste had discovered her forever home. Affectionately known as "Momma" by the family, she now enjoys the comforts of snuggling on the couch and luxuriating by the fireside, a striking departure from her previous life on the streets.
