People who work in animal shelters make enormous sacrifices to save the lives of puppies in need and in desperate conditions. They don't know timetables. When they receive a report they immediately mobilize to shelter the animal that needs help. And so it was with Lucky , abandoned on a railway in Pennsylvania, in the United States. His discovery led to a sad truth.
The rescuers of the Philly Rescue Angels association took immediate action when they learned that there was an abandoned dog on a railway track. When they arrived they found the poor defenseless animal in front of them. He couldn't move. His tortured body bore the signs of a sad past.
Lucky hadn't been hit by a train, but he had been heavily abused by bad people who then dumped him that way. Next to Lucky there were a leash and a collar, a sign of his abandoned state.
“I guess they left him to hide the fact that they broke his back and used the train to cover him up” – sadly declared one of the rescuers. The damage that Lucky suffered in his body was very serious.
The shelter employees immediately took the dog away from that railway to arrive at the shelter, finally safe. He had very extensive damage to his spinal cord. The vets knew there wasn't much they could do for him.
Lucky had serious infections, broken teeth and potentially fatal spinal injuries. The people who saved him would have done everything to make his life better, but the mistreatment and violence suffered by the poor dog marked him for the rest of his life.
“ The orthopedic doctors said this is the worst spinal fracture they have ever seen. We are having a lucky surgery, however the operation would only be to eliminate the pain, this will not repair anything, as his injury is too serious to be repaired” – reads the Facebook profile of the shelter.
Despite his serious condition, the shelter says it has received many adoption requests for Lucky. His story touched everyone's hearts. “Lucky will need extensive aftercare” but more importantly “he will need someone willing to help him recover.”
